Building at risk of collapse after sinkhole emerges

The large sinkhole extends through the adjoining carpark to the building's edge and has caused the exterior walls to bow.

Staff from the office building and nearby M6 tunnel construction workers were cleared from the area and no injuries have been reported.

NSW Fire and Rescue were on the scene to set up an exclusion zone around the building on West Botany Street in Rockdale on March 1.

"A building has become destabilized and is showing signs of structural collapse," a NSW Fire and Rescue spokesperson said.

"This will be a protracted incident with operations to continue throughout the day."

It's believed the sinkhole appeared after 5am on morning of March 1.

The building is near the new building site for Sydney's M6 tunnel but it was unclear if the sinkhole was caused by the underground construction.

Several workers were evacuated from the M6 project, who were tunneling between 5.30am and 5.45am, when the sinkhole appeared.
