There are many contenders for the major awards to be presented by special guest, Canberra W-League soccer captain Nicole Begg.
In the individual award categories, the main contenders for the Frank Smith Memorial Trophy appear to be Australian representatives Samantha Maxwell (rugby union) and Tim Rees (goalball) and last year’s winner Tim Berryman (motor sports).
Samantha had an outstanding year in rugby, following on from a successful 2014 where she was named Cootamundra’s Junior Sportsperson of the Year. Being named in a national team to compete in a tournament in Samoa was a great milestone for this talented and dedicated sportsperson.
Tim Rees has excelled in a sport that caters for the visually impaired and earned a trip to China for the national goalball team after starring for NSW.

Tim Berryman competed in Europe after securing a national title on the racetrack in 2014, truly an outstanding effort from the Stockinbingal farmer.
There are several young athletes in the spotlight for the Junior Sportsperson Award. Alyssa Armstrong, who competes regularly at the highest level of schoolgirl soccer, shows great commitment and dedication to her sport.
Haydn Cowled and James Smith represented NSW Country under 18’s in rugby league after success at the State titles with Riverina and then toured New Zealand.
Mitchell Coleman-Hardy (athletics) is very talented and travelled to Canada in 2015 after returning several impressive performances in field events.
Joseph Trinder continues to perform consistently in golf and his achievements over 12 months in a variety of events and with his recognition from NSW Schools, highlights his talents.
Ben Rumble and Ben Camilleri both performed at state level in a number of athletic events and showing commitment and ability in a very competitive sporting arena.
Lachlan and Mitchell Deep (golf), Haydn Penrith and James Doyle (basketball) and a host of other juniors also excelled in school based sport in 2015.
In the junior team awards, several teams were nominated for outstanding performances in 2015.
The Sacred Heart Year 3 and 4 Junior Rugby team, the Sacred Heart under 16’s Rugby league team, the Cootamundra’s Primary Cricket representative team, the Cootamundra Bears under 11’s, the Cootamundra Bradman Letter team and the Under 12 Cougars Girls basketball team will be vying for the top award.

Senior team nominations include Paul and Lachlan Deep (Golf), the Scott Fuller Men’s golf team, the Cootamundra Ex-Services Men’s Lawn Bowls Pennant team, the Cootamundra Blues AFL team and the Tricolours 2nd XV.
The Sporting Administrators Award sees Andrew Finch (martial arts), Mark Loiterton (Cootamundra Cycle Club), Mick Godbier (soccer) and Wayne Berkrey (rugby league) nominated for this prestigious award.
