Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council, (CGRC) Councillors Leigh Bowden and Penny Nicholson are hosting an information session for women who may be interested in standing for Council.

The information session, will be facilitated by The Australian Local Government Women's Association (ALGWA), with guest speakers, Cr Cassandra Coleman from Lithgow and the current President of ALGWA, along with Mayor of Shellharbour, Cr Marianne Saliba, who was the ALGWA Immediate Past President.
Included during the session will be information regarding what is involved in being a councillor, how to run a successful campaign and the support that you can receive from ALGWA.
The session will be held on Saturday, November 2 from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm at the Alby Schultz Room, Cooper St, Cootamundra.
Lunch will be provided.
CGRC Councillor Leigh Bowden encouraged all women who have an interest in local government to attend.
"Being in local government either as an elected representative or working within the structure, is both rewarding and stimulating, I'd like to urge all those women who would like to find out more and perhaps put their hands up to run for local council representation to come along to this information session," Cr Bowden said.
"Women make up 50 per cent of the population, it would be great if 50 per cent of council representatives were also women.
"We can bring a different perspective to council, it's not all rates, roads and rubbish."
Cr Bowden added that studies have shown company boards that were made up of women as well as men outperformed all male company boards.
"Studies on the performance of councils with women on them also showed better outcomes for their communities," Cr Bowden said.

Cr Bowden said women attending the session did not need to be definite about standing for election.
"Just come along and hear how women can contribute and how support is available for them.
"We are working in a male environment but changing it little by little," Cr Bowden added.
